Houses to homes

Houses to homes

Posted 18th June 2021

The young people have been magic during our first year of the MHP, they have shown staff how they have longed for a house that they can transform into a home. Each young person who has now got their home, has taken the blank canvas and transformed it into their own space. Each staff member has been impressed with the way in which the young people have tried new DIY tasks. MHP has had a young person lay laminate flooring on their own without a tradesman. This young person has then supported others when they have needed the help. Some of the young people have introduced pets to their homes and the therapy they receive from their animals is priceless. Most of the young people have turned their hand to painting and decorating which has been amazing to observe the pride they have when they have achieved it themselves.

The young poeple are working togehter in their small community to support and transfer thier knowledge and skills onto the rest of the community. They each showcase thier work in the community chat and motivate and praise one another for their difference in their new home. MHP 2021, have been a great bunch of young people with a stunning range of houses offered to them.

Not only did they address the conference but they got to hear from Local House Project staff and young people on how they are working together to improve the way in which young people leave care and how this meets the commitments made in The Promise in 2020.
